LONG BLOCK REPLACEMENT PROTOCOLS
A long block is a preassembled engine core. It restores factory-spec internal tolerances and reduces shop labor. The assembly includes the engine block, crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, cylinder heads, and valvetrain. Unlike a complete engine, a long block excludes external accessories, manifolds, and fuel systems.
Technicians use long blocks for severe internal failures. Rebuilding individual components is often not cost-effective. Success depends on the cleanliness of reused parts. Residual metal debris in an intake manifold or oil cooler causes immediate failure. Precise diagnosis and rigorous cleaning are mandatory before installation.

Installation Workflow:
- Confirm terminal internal failure using borescope inspection or fluid analysis.
- Strip the failed engine of all usable external brackets, sensors, and manifolds.
- Scrub intake passages and cooling lines to remove all metallic contaminants.
- Install new gaskets and seals on every transferred component.
- Transfer fuel and ignition systems to the new assembly.
- Verify all external fastener torque specifications against factory service data.

Pro-Tip: Flush oil coolers and lines thoroughly to prevent residual metal debris from contaminating the new long block assembly.
