LATCH DIAGNOSIS AND SIGNAL INTEGRATION
Modern liftgate latches are hybrid components. They secure the gate physically while signaling status electronically to the Body Control Module (BCM). If an internal switch fails, the BCM assumes the gate is open. This triggers false dashboard Ajar warnings. It also causes parasitic battery drain via active interior lighting and disrupts central locking logic.

Diagnosis requires bridge thinking. Never treat mechanical and electrical issues as separate. A latch can physically click shut but fail to send the required ground signal. This creates a phantom open state. Replacing the hardware solves both the physical security and the data error simultaneously.

- Inspect the striker for physical damage or misalignment.
- Use a scan tool to monitor the gate status PID in real-time.
- Check for high resistance or corrosion in the latch harness connector.
- Install the new latch assembly if the signal remains static while closed.
- Cycle the gate ten times to ensure consistent signal communication.

Pro-Tip: Manually trip the latch with a screwdriver during testing to isolate internal switch failure from mechanical gate alignment.
